The Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, has arrested 38 men found inside a brand-new Mercedes-Benz truck suspected to have come from the northern part of the country. The passengers were intercepted on Sunday at the Cathedral area of Akure, the state capital, while travelling in the vehicle with registration number Jigawa GML 335 XR. During interrogation, the suspects were reportedly unable to state a definite destination within Ondo State, raising suspicion among security operatives.
Confirming the arrest on Monday, the Commander of Ondo Amotekun, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said the area where the driver claimed to have picked up the passengers was prone to extremist activities, adding that all suspects would be properly investigated. He said, “We will profile all of them thoroughly and anyone found culpable. After investigations, they would face the full weight of the law, while those cleared would be sent back to their states of origin.” Adeleye urged residents to remain calm, assuring them that the situation was under control, while a source disclosed that one of the passengers allegedly had a uniform bearing the inscription “Commander” and some charms but could not clearly explain his destination.
