Obi vs. Atiku in ADC: What will decide the 2027 race – Bashir Ahmad

Former media aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has said that a primary election will determine whether Peter Obi can defeat former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket.

Ahmad highlighted the contrasting strengths of the two candidates, noting that Obi enjoys strong support among young voters, while Atiku benefits from established party structures and machinery.

Posting on X, Ahmad wrote: “The likelihood of Peter Obi prevailing over Atiku Abubakar in the ADC primaries largely hinges on the mode of the primaries. Obi commands significant support among young voters, while Atiku enjoys the backing of established structures and the party machinery.”

Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, recently defected to the ADC amid growing speculation about his ambitions for the 2027 presidential election.

Reports suggest that Obi will vie for the party’s presidential ticket alongside Atiku, setting the stage for a competitive primary that could shape the ADC’s strategy ahead of the national elections.
