Tension has gripped Ikoyi-Ile in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State after handwritten threat notes allegedly from bandits warned of an invasion scheduled for January 20.
The notes, written in Yoruba and English and left at a residential building, contained no names or addresses but indicated the attackers’ intent to cause harm and demand compliance from residents.
Confirming the development, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the Police Public Relations Officer for Oyo State, said the individual who found the notes is undergoing debriefing while the Command launched a full-scale investigation to verify the origin and intent of the messages.
In response, the Oyo State Police Command placed Ikoyi-Ile and surrounding areas on 24-hour high alert, deploying tactical units and intelligence officers to forestall any security breach.
“Police personnel are currently on 24-hour high alert, with sustained ground presence to deny criminal elements any opportunity to operate or exploit the situation,” DSP Ayanlade said, noting that armed patrols, stop-and-search operations, and surveillance have been reinforced.
The heightened security follows a recent deadly attack on the National Park Service office in Oloka Community, also in Oriire LGA, which claimed the lives of five forest rangers and involved the theft of rifles and motorcycles, prompting fears that the new threat may be retaliatory in nature.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
