A bishop of a well-known church in John Laing area of Lusaka, Zambia, has dragged his wife to court over an alleged violent domestic assault. The cleric, Bishop Maxwell Mwanza, 39, accused his wife, Cynthia Bwalya, 32, of stabbing him on the hands and head with a knife during a dispute at their home on November 17, 2025. Cynthia has since been charged with unlawful wounding.
According to Zambia Observer, the matter came up before Lusaka Magistrate Kawama Mwamfuli, where the accused appeared calm and pleaded not guilty to the charge. The court adjourned the case to January 22, 2026. Bishop Mwanza told police that trouble began after he overheard his wife speaking on the phone with another man in the early hours of the morning, which led to an argument that allegedly escalated into violence.
