The President Bola Tinubu administration has earmarked an additional N7 billion in the 2026 budget for the solarisation of the Presidential Villa, according to details released by the Budget Office of the Federation. The allocation, listed under State House expenditures, is described as a provision for the “solarisation of the Villa with a solar mini grid.”
This comes a year after the Federal Government set aside N10 billion in the 2025 budget for the same project at Aso Rock, which houses the President and other top officials of the Presidency. The continued investment signals an expansion or completion phase of the solar power initiative for the State House.
The move has drawn public attention amid persistent power supply challenges faced by many Nigerians. In April 2025, following widespread criticism of the initial N10 billion allocation, the Presidency defended the project, describing it as a strategic long-term investment aimed at promoting sustainability and improving energy efficiency at the Presidential Villa.
