The driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway crash that killed two of Anthony Joshua’s associates has been arrested, Ogun State Police confirmed on Thursday. Police Public Relations Officer Oluseyi Babaseyi said the driver is “currently in custody in connection with the Anthony Joshua accident case,” as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the collision. Joshua had been discharged from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, Lagos, after doctors confirmed he was clinically fit to continue his recovery at home.
The accident on Monday occurred when the SUV carrying Joshua and members of his team rammed into a stationary truck along the expressway, resulting in the deaths of personal trainer Kevin Latif Ayodele and strength and conditioning coach Sina Ghami. The Federal Road Safety Corps attributed the crash to excessive speed and wrongful overtaking, factors described as leading causes of fatal road accidents on Nigerian highways. Police also said the driver of the truck fled the scene and is being sought by authorities amid possible reckless driving charges.
