AFCON: Beat Super Eagles, get ₦11.3m each — Mozambique president tells Mambas.

Mozambique President Daniel Francisco Chapo has officially congratulated the national football team, the Mambas, for their historic qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 in Morocco. Despite a narrow final group stage defeat to Cameroon, the Mambas secured a third-place finish in Group F, setting up a high-stakes knockout encounter against Nigeria.

To incentivize a victory over the Super Eagles, President Chapo announced an extraordinary bonus of 500,000 meticais (approximately N11.3 million) for every player and coach. He praised the team’s “courage, discipline and determination,” describing their achievement as “unprecedented and meritorious.” The president emphasized that these rewards aim to motivate the squad to reach the tournament’s quarterfinals.

The highly anticipated match is scheduled for Monday, January 5, at the Complexe Sportif de Fès. Reaffirming that “the entire nation stands behind the team,” the Head of State expressed absolute confidence in their ability to overcome the Nigerian side. This financial pledge underscores the government’s commitment to supporting the Mambas as they pursue a new continental milestone.
