Human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, has challenged the Federal Government over the implementation of the new tax laws. Speaking to journalists in his Ilawe-Ekiti hometown on Wednesday, Falana said the laws cannot take effect amid ongoing controversies about their legitimacy, including allegations of unauthorized insertions.
Falana stressed that the government should have used the final days of 2025 to resolve these issues and provide clean copies of the laws. “If that was not done, the government would put itself in trouble by deciding to implement the laws. There are interest groups ready to challenge the legitimacy of the laws,” he warned.
Despite President Bola Tinubu’s insistence on a January 1, 2026 rollout, the senior lawyer maintained that the laws cannot take effect until all disputes over their legitimacy are addressed. He urged the government to ensure clarity to avoid potential legal challenges.
