A boat travelling from Ilashe Beach House capsized near Igbologun on Tuesday night, leaving six passengers dead, the Lagos State Waterways Authority confirmed. The Savvy Marine passenger boat collided with a submerged object around 8:35 p.m. near the Nigerdock axis. “The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) and National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) have confirmed a boat mishap… at approximately 8:35 p.m., along the Nigerdock axis,” LASWA said.
Four passengers were rescued and taken to hospital for treatment. “As of the time of this report, four (4) passengers have been successfully rescued… Sadly, six (6) other passengers were recovered dead at the scene,” the agency added. LASWA noted that investigations were ongoing and reiterated enforcement of the “no night travel” rule amid persistent navigation risks on Lagos inland waterways.
