Makinde received N50bn from Tinubu, then turned against him – Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde N50 billion in support following the Ibadan explosion.

Fayose made the claim during an interview on TVC, accusing Makinde of withholding full disclosure of his engagement with the president. He criticised Makinde for sharing “skewed details” of their discussions with the public.

“But you did not tell Nigerians you got, at the prerogative, at the mercy of Mr. President, 50 billion Naira in support of the explosion in Ibadan,” Fayose said, adding that Makinde failed to openly acknowledge Tinubu’s intervention.

He further stated that the funds did not go directly into government accounts but came through Makinde’s private interface with the presidency.

Fayose also accused the Oyo governor of misrepresenting his political stance by only revealing parts of their conversation. “You only said the part where you said the president told you to ‘go and organize APC for me,’” he said.

The former governor additionally accused Makinde of weakening the Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West. Makinde recently stated that he will not support Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
