A powerful evening blast from Eminent Quarry in Ibadan sent violent shockwaves through nearby communities, causing buildings to shake and sparking widespread panic among residents. The explosion, occurring around 7:50 pm along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, affected areas including Orisunmibare, Ekefa, and surroundings of Aramed Hospital. “Our buildings shook as if an earthquake had struck,” said one resident, with many fleeing their homes fearing a terrorist attack.
Community leaders accused the quarry of operating without proper safety standards, regulation, or consultation, calling its activities “wholly incompatible with human habitation.” Medical personnel raised concerns over panic-induced health complications for vulnerable patients. Residents are now urgently demanding that state and federal agencies investigate and suspend all blasting operations.
The communities insist the matter cannot be treated as routine and are calling for immediate government action to prevent a potential disaster. They warn that continued official inaction could escalate tensions. As of press time, Eminent Quarry had not issued a public statement regarding the incident.
