The explosion, occurring around 7:50 pm along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, affected areas including Orisunmibare, Ekefa, and surroundings of Aramed Hospital. “Our buildings shook as if an earthquake had struck,” said one resident, with many fleeing their homes fearing a terrorist attack.
Community leaders accused the quarry of operating without proper safety standards, regulation, or consultation, calling its activities “wholly incompatible with human habitation.” Medical personnel raised concerns over panic-induced health complications for vulnerable patients. Residents are now urgently demanding that state and federal agencies investigate and suspend all blasting operations.
