The Delta State Police Command has arrested a woman for allegedly faking the abduction of her two-month-old baby and selling the child for ₦1.5 million to a pastor in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area. The arrest was confirmed on Tuesday by the Commissioner of Police in the state, Olufemi Abaniwonda, according to a report from Daily Post Nigeria.
The suspect had earlier claimed that gunmen forcefully abducted her baby on Monday, December 15, while she was riding in a tricycle, adding that she was pushed out during the incident. However, operatives led by the Effurun Area Commander, ACP Aliyu Shaba, swung into action following the report and successfully recovered the baby.
Investigations later revealed that the woman allegedly staged the abduction and sold the child to a cleric. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident in a WhatsApp message to journalists in Warri, stating simply: “Confirmed.”
