President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the new tax laws will benefit the poor, low-income earners and small businesses. Represented by Federal Inland Revenue Service Chairman, Dr Zacheus Adedeji, at the 2025 Senator Ajimobi Roundtable in Ibadan, Tinubu said there was no need for apprehension ahead of the laws’ implementation next year.
“I wish to use this opportunity to assure Nigerians that there should be no apprehension about the new tax laws,” the President said, adding that the reforms bring “good news for the poor, low-income earners, as well as small businesses.” Tinubu also paid tribute to late former Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, describing him as a committed progressive who served with dedication and zeal.
Delivering a lecture at the event, Professor Ibrahim Gambari warned that declining voter turnout reflected growing public distrust, noting a drop from 69 percent in 2003 to 25 percent in 2023. “You can rig an election and win; the consequences are disastrous,” he said. Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, represented by his deputy, said rebuilding democratic trust required sincerity, accountability and internal party democracy.
