President of Dangote Refinery, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has dismissed claims that United States President Donald Trump is unhappy with the establishment of the $20bn Dangote Refinery.
He described reports linking Trump’s recent comments on security in Nigeria to the refinery as false, saying such narratives circulating on social media “do not hold water.”
Dangote explained that the United States remains a major supplier of crude oil to the refinery, stressing that this relationship contradicts claims of hostility. “The US has been one of our major suppliers of crude, which is why when someone says Trump is not happy with our refinery, it’s not true,” he said, adding that the refinery purchases up to 100 million barrels annually from the US.
He also noted that Nigerians now have the option of buying cheaper, high-quality locally refined petrol or more expensive imported fuel.
Dangote said fuel importers could continue to incur losses while consumers benefit from affordable prices, as locally refined PMS offers better quality at lower rates than blended imported alternatives.
