PDP says party ‘battle-ready’ after consultative meeting with Obasanjo

Some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday met former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of efforts to reposition the opposition party for a possible return to power in the 2027 general elections.

The delegation was led by factional chairman, Alhaji Kabiru Turaki (SAN), and included senior party figures. The closed-door meeting lasted about 40 minutes.

Speaking after the meeting, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said Obasanjo stressed discipline as vital to the party’s survival. “He practically and particularly said that we can’t allow indiscipline; that indiscipline destroys everything,” Ememobong said.

He added that the leadership assured the former president it would strengthen internal discipline and ensure adherence to party rules to protect unity and credibility.

Turaki said the visit was to seek Obasanjo’s guidance and support ahead of “the gargantuan task” of unseating the APC in 2027.

He declared, “PDP is battle-ready for 2027,” adding that victories in Ekiti and Osun states would signal the party’s resurgence. Party leaders also urged members nationwide to remain united and intensify mobilisation.
