US, Nigeria near security deal on terrorism

US Congressman Riley Moore said the US and Nigeria are close to finalising a strategic security framework to tackle terrorism and sectarian violence in the country. Moore disclosed this on X, noting progress in recent discussions with Nigerian authorities on addressing security challenges.

The five-member congressional delegation, led by Moore, visited Nigeria, touring internally displaced persons camps, Christian communities, and meeting security officials including NSA Nuhu Ribadu and AGF Lateef Fagbemi. Moore said the team travelled in armoured vehicles in parts of Benue State to gather what he called “ground truth.”

Moore said the framework would target Boko Haram and ISIS-linked groups in the North-East and address violence in the Middle Belt. “We did have positive conversations with the Nigerian government, and I believe we are close to a strategic security framework… to end the slaughter of our brothers and sisters in Christ,” he wrote.
