Zamfara ex-Governor Yerima’s Abuja flats razed by fire

A fire outbreak on Saturday destroyed four of five blocks of three-bedroom flats at No. 13 Nelson Mandela Street, Asokoro, Abuja. The blaze reportedly began from solar panels mounted on the roof and spread quickly to adjoining apartments, causing extensive damage.

Confirming the incident, the Head of Public Affairs of the Federal Emergency Management Department (FEMD), Nkechi Isa, said the property is believed to belong to former Zamfara State governor and serving senator, Sani Yerima. She said the fire was reported at about 1pm and no lives were lost.

“According to the Head of FEMD Search and Rescue Team, Mr Monday Addie, the incident was reported at about 1pm. No life was lost to the incident. However, the four affected flats were totally burned,” Isa said. She added that emergency agencies were deployed to contain the fire.
