A 25-year-old man, Adamu Abdullahi, was lynched by a mob in Suleja, Niger State, after he allegedly fatally stabbed his 45-year-old mother, Hauwa Sanusi, on Saturday. The violence stemmed from a dispute over Abdullahi’s share of his late father’s inheritance, which the mother was reportedly holding to prevent him from wasting it. This double tragedy occurred in the early hours of the day.
The victim’s screams quickly alerted neighbors, who rushed to the scene. “Upon sighting the people, he attempted to flee and he was held and seeing the condition the mother was in, some youths started beating mercilessly before he was eventually taken away by the police,” stated an eyewitness, Ibrahim Hassan. The mob apprehended Abdullahi as he attempted to escape and subsequently killed him before police could secure him.
Niger State Police Command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that a report was received on December 13, 2025, that Hauwa Sanusi was killed by her son, Adamu Abdullahi, with a knife. Abiodun added that “a group of mob attacked the suspect and he was lynched to death.” Police recovered the weapon and are attempting to arrest the mob members.
