The Imo State Government has demolished Ugwudi Cottage Hospital Mortuary in Ngor Okpala after officials uncovered mutilated and unidentified corpses during an inspection. Governor Hope Uzodimma also ordered the demolition of Jessy Best Hotel and two houses belonging to fugitive suspect Stanley Oparaugo, alias “Morocco,” who is wanted for alleged ritual killings, kidnapping, organ harvesting and related crimes. Twenty-one corpses were removed from the mortuary, which authorities say operated illegally and posed grave health risks.
The exercise was led by senior state officials and supervised by security agencies under CP Aboki Danjuma, who said the demolition reflects the government’s commitment to fighting crime. Health Commissioner Dr. Chioma Egu warned that the facility could trigger disease outbreaks, adding that unclaimed bodies may face mass burial. Authorities say inspections of all mortuaries will begin next week, while police intensify efforts to arrest Oparaugo. Shrines, skulls, and fetish items were found at the scene.
