Qatar has pledged $1 million to the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) for 2026, the country’s UN envoy announced Wednesday. Alya Ahmed bin Saif, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN, said the pledge reflects “our belief in CERF’s vital role in responding to urgent humanitarian needs and our longstanding partnership with the United Nations.”
Bin Saif highlighted CERF’s track record in providing life-saving aid in crises, from conflicts to climate-related emergencies, including food, shelter, and medical care. UN Secretary-General António Guterres praised CERF as “the world’s global lifeline in emergencies,” noting it has delivered nearly $10 billion in aid to more than 100 countries since 2006.
