Nine women allegedly killed by Nigerian soldiers in Adamawa State were buried on Tuesday in a mass ceremony at the Lamurde Local Government Secretariat, drawing thousands of mourners. Community leaders released the victims’ identities and renewed demands for justice, describing the deaths as “an avoidable and unjustified military assault.” The bodies, wrapped in white and grass-mat, were laid side-by-side as grief and anger filled the atmosphere.
Tension escalated as groups from the Bachama and Chobo communities traded accusations over what led to the confrontation. The Bwate Youth Wing alleged that “the army opened fire on innocent women,” while the Chobo Youth Forum countered that its villages were attacked and burned by a Bachama militia. Both sides called for clarity as pressure mounted on the military to explain how unarmed women became casualties.
