French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz have cautioned that the United States might “betray” Ukraine by pressing peace negotiations that demand territorial concessions without reliable security guarantees, according to a leak published by Der Spiegel.
Merz reportedly added that Kyiv should be “very careful,” warning, “They are playing games with both you and us,” a comment widely interpreted as distrust of recent talks by U.S. envoys with Russia.
