The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has issued a December 31 deadline for the Federal Government to release four months’ withheld salaries estimated at ₦50 billion. The union reached the resolution at its 53rd NEC meeting in Jos, demanding an end to what it called “continued marginalisation” of non-teaching staff and their inclusion in the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement. SSANU also condemned rising campus insecurity and rejected proposed PPPs, warning of job casualisation.
SSANU President, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim, described the planned industrial action as a “last resort” after years of unfulfilled promises. If unmet, the union vowed to mobilise NASU and NAAT for an indefinite shutdown of university administrative and technical services. This comes two months after a week-long warning strike held in October 2025. As of press time, neither the Ministry of Education nor the Office of the Head of Service had responded to the ultimatum.
