Nigerian Soldiers escorting Commander kill seven women at protest

At least seven women have reportedly been shot dead by soldiers escorting the Brigade Commander, Amechi Agwu of the 23 Brigade, during a protest in Lamurde, Adamawa State. Witnesses told SaharaReporters that troops opened fire on demonstrators at Rigange junction on Monday afternoon, shortly after suspected Chobo-speaking militia had earlier attacked multiple communities in the area. A community leader confirmed that 12 women were shot, saying, “Five others are battling for their lives at Numan General Hospital.”

Sources said the women had gathered to protest what they described as the slow response of security forces to the militia attack. “The women were angry, frustrated, and tired of burying their own,” one source said. “They were demanding answers. Instead, what they got were bullets.” Attempts to reach Army spokesperson Lt. Col. Apollonia Anele were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered. The Nigerian Army had yet to issue an official statement at the time of filing this report.
