WHO: 114 killed in Sudan hospital, kindergarten attacks

The World Health Organization has confirmed that 114 people, including 63 children, were killed in drone strikes that hit a kindergarten and the Kalogi Rural Hospital in South Kordofan last Thursday. Local administrator Essam al-Din al-Sayed said the paramilitary attack struck “first a kindergarten, then a hospital, and a third time as people tried to rescue the children”. The violence occurred amid ongoing fighting between Sudan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces.

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the strikes “hit a kindergarten and, at least three times, the nearby Kalogi Rural Hospital”, injuring 35 people and hindering rescue efforts as paramedics also came under attack. The UN condemned the assault, with Secretary-General Antonio Guterres calling on states to pressure the warring parties to halt hostilities and stop the flow of weapons fuelling the conflict.
