PDP splits deepen as Wike faction appoints caretaker panel

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Nyesom Wike has dissolved the national working committee and inaugurated a 13-member caretaker panel. The committee, unveiled during a NEC meeting at Wike’s residence, will manage party affairs for 60 days ahead of a national convention. Abdulrahman Mohammed chairs the panel, with Samuel Anyanwu serving as secretary.

The move comes as the tenure of the NWC elected in 2021 ends, deepening the party’s internal split. PDP governors earlier backed a separate convention that elected Kabiru Turaki as chairman and expelled Wike and his allies. The Wike faction rejected the decision, formed a parallel structure and responded with its own expulsions, escalating the rivalry between both blocs.
