Dozens are feared dead after armed Chobo-speaking militia from Gombe State, joined by counterparts in Adamawa, launched coordinated attacks on Bachama communities in Lamurde LGA. Local sources told SaharaReporters that the assailants advanced from creeks near Gombe and overran multiple settlements, “burning Waduku and Tingno to ashes.” Residents said youths mobilised to prevent the attackers from pushing into Rigange, while attempts to reach Lamurde town were repelled.
The violence comes days after Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri brokered a fragile peace deal between the rival groups, according to Dr. Jamila Suleiman of the Adamawa Peace Commission. Fintiri has imposed a 24-hour curfew, with police spokesperson SP Suleiman Nguroje urging residents to stay indoors. He said the Commissioner of Police has deployed additional tactical units, warning that security agencies “will not allow miscreants and misguided elements to operate unchallenged.”
