“We’re not animals” – Demolition victims appeal to Lagos govt.

A 63-year-old victim of the Oworonshoki demolition in Lagos has appealed to the state government and community leaders for urgent assistance, saying many displaced residents are stranded. Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, she said they were not informed before the exercise began. “We are not goats; we are not animals. The government should please help us,” she said, alleging that only select indigenes received compensation of N200,000 or N300,000.

She explained that families now sleep in open spaces and abandoned water tanks, which were also reportedly burnt during the operation. “Some of us were sleeping inside the water tank… Some people sleep on this street,” she said, adding that sick and elderly residents are suffering. She urged authorities to intervene immediately, saying, “They should have pity on us. This is too much.”
