The Federal Government has secured the release of 100 out of the 315 people abducted two weeks ago from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Niger State.
The attack saw bandits seize 303 students and 12 teachers. Details of the rescue remain unclear, and The Guardian could not confirm whether ransom was paid. Officials said the freed pupils are undergoing medical evaluation before reunification with their families.
Despite the development, 153 pupils and 12 teachers remain in captivity, heightening concerns among families. Earlier, the Christian Association of Nigeria said 50 pupils escaped, though BBC Pidgin reported they had fled during the initial attack.
The incident occurred amid a wave of abductions, including the kidnapping of students in Kebbi, worshippers in Kwara, and the killing of General Sani Uba by suspected ISWAP fighters.
