Bandits reportedly attacked worshippers during Subh prayer on Saturday at Kiba Ruwa in Sabon-Birni LGA of Sokoto State, killing the imam and one other person. Witnesses told Egbe Mekun Parrots that the attackers stormed the mosque at dawn and opened fire, before abducting several worshippers whose exact number remains unknown. Security agencies have been alerted, while residents remain on edge as rescue efforts begin.
The violence comes weeks after bandits abducted 26 schoolgirls from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga in Kebbi State. Governor Nasir Idris questioned the withdrawal of soldiers from the school despite prior intelligence on an attack. “The military was deployed, but they later withdrew by 3am, and by 3:45am, the incident happened,” he said, demanding investigations to uncover who authorized the withdrawal.
