Defence Ministry Directors’ husbands cry out as wives remain missing after ransom

Husbands of two Ministry of Defence Assistant Directors kidnapped on November 9 have cried out in distress after their wives remained missing despite a N60 million ransom reportedly paid to abductors.

While four of the six kidnapped women were released, families of Mrs. Chinwe Emeribe and Mrs. Juliana Onwuzuruike said they were devastated when the returning vehicle arrived empty. “Where are our wives?” one of them recalled asking the driver, who confirmed only four captives were freed.

The husbands recounted last phone calls, ransom negotiations, and emotional strain on their families, including children waiting helplessly at home. They said neither the Ministry of Defence nor the Army offered support during the ordeal, leaving them to raise money independently.

A Defence Ministry director confirmed only four women had been released, adding that anxiety had escalated over the fate of the remaining two victims.
