Federal investigators say evidence of fraud in Minnesota involving members of the Somali community is overwhelming. Over the past five years, dozens of individuals allegedly set up companies that billed state agencies for millions in social services that were never provided. Feeding Our Future, a charity claiming to provide meals to children, reportedly received $250 million under the Federal Child Nutrition Program, but 125 million meals were not delivered.
Peter Schweizer, president of the Government Accountability Institute, called the case “criminal” and said government officials failed to act due to fears of appearing discriminatory. House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer has requested documents from Minnesota officials regarding alleged cover-ups. Rep. Ilhan Omar acknowledged that the COVID-19 relief programs lacked adequate safeguards.
