WHO urges support for Anambra measles-rubella vaccination

The World Health Organization is urging strong government and community support for an upcoming measles-rubella vaccination campaign in Anambra State, Nigeria. A WHO delegation, led by Winifred Onodu, met with Health Commissioner Afam Obidike, emphasizing vaccination as the primary defense against these diseases, which are particularly prevalent in Nigeria and target children aged nine months to 14 years.

Commissioner Obidike reaffirmed the state’s commitment, assuring that the WHO and NAFDAC-approved vaccine is safe, free, and will be administered across public health facilities. He called on community leaders, parents, and schools to mobilize eligible children, stressing the importance of public awareness to ensure high participation.
