Clubs threaten Ugandan players over AFCON 2025

Foreign clubs are threatening to terminate contracts for Ugandan players Melvyn Lorenzen and Timothy Awany if they play in AFCON 2025. This has caused outrage among African football stakeholders.

FIFA rules require clubs to release invited players a week before competitions. The AFCON 2025 finals will be held in Morocco from December 21 to January 18, 2026.
