KWAM 1 eyes Awujale throne

Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, has formally declared his intention to be considered for the vacant Awujale of Ijebuland stool. In a letter dated December 3, 2025, to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Agunsebi Quarters, the musician cited his ancestry to the Oba Jadiara lineage, which qualifies him under Ijebu customary law. He stated: “I was born on 3rd March 1957, and I am a bona fide son of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House ofAgunsebi Quarters.” His ambition follows over five decades promoting Yoruba and Nigerian culture through his music.

The ruling house chairman, Abdul Lateef Adebayo Owoyemi, confirmed the receipt of the letter, urging family members to remain calm as the process is underway. KWAM 1’s declaration comes after a recent, unrelated incident where he was briefly banned from flying in Nigeria following a public standoff with airport officials. The artiste, decorated as Mayegun of Yorubaland and Olori Omo-Oba of Akile Ijebu, is optimistic the selection will be concluded “within a matter of weeks.”
