Eight employees of the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) were released by Burkina Faso’s military junta after being detained for months on accusations of spying, allegations which INSO firmly denies.
Eight members of the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) were released in Burkina Faso after months of detention on accusations of spying by the military junta. The arrests occurred in July, but the Netherlands-based NGO, whose authorization was revoked in July, announced the release on Friday, December 5, 2025. The detainees included eight nationals from France, Senegal, Czech Republic, Mali, and Burkina Faso.
Burkinabe authorities had claimed INSO collected and passed on sensitive security information to foreign powers and continued covert operations after huts ban. However, INSO rejected these allegations, stating it only provides security analyses for other aid groups. “INSO welcomes the safe release of our colleagues, and appreciates the support that made this possible,” the organization said.
