Rivers speaker, 15 lawmakers defect from PDP to APC

Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule and fifteen lawmakers on Friday announced their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The declaration, made during plenary, immediately drew attention across the state. Amaewhule said their move followed a “clear division” in the PDP, which he argued had hindered effective legislative operations.

He added that the internal conflict had made the PDP “unsustainable,” prompting the lawmakers to align with a political structure they believe offers greater stability. According to him, the switch to the APC would enable them to deliver better governance to their constituencies as the PDP could no longer support legislative progress.
