Ondo farmers protest forest reserve attacks

Farmers from Ondo State’s Oluwa Forest Reserve protested on Thursday, decrying persistent assaults and harassment by alleged land grabbers. They marched to the Governor’s Office, stating they could not access legally allocated farmlands due to these attacks, demanding intervention from the state government.

The dispute stems from the government selling 10,000 hectares to an investor, with 2,000 later ceded to communities like Irore Ajelanwa, who pay millions in annual dues. Farmers reported the issue to police and the National Assembly. Commissioner Olaleye Akinola promised a meeting to resolve the matter.
