Why Tomori didn’t play for Super Eagles

AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori says he never played for the Super Eagles because he was not officially invited by Nigeria. Tomori, who represents England at international level, explained that although he has several friends in the Nigerian squad, the football authorities never reached out. “Nigeria isn’t bad, though… Ola is there, Mola is there, and Alex is there,” he said on the Filthy Fellas Podcast.

The 27-year-old, born in Canada to Nigerian parents, said he would have considered playing for Nigeria if an approach had been made. He recalled switching from Canada’s youth setup to England’s U-19s at age 18. “It’s not like I wouldn’t have played there, but they never called me, so I never had a choice to make,” he said. “If they called me, I would have a decision to make, but they never officially called me.”
