William Troost-Ekong, 32, has announced his retirement from international football, effective ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The defender revealed his decision on social media on Thursday, despite being named in Nigeria’s provisional squad for the AFCON finals in Morocco.
Troost-Ekong, who recently recovered from hamstring surgery, stated to the Standard that it is “the moment for them to claim that” for the new generation. He added, “I think there is a natural progression and there is an art in knowing when to step away.”
