The Abuja Court of Appeal has upheld the ban on the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) in Nigeria, awarding Abubakar Marshal N1 million. This decision supports an earlier Federal High Court ruling that declared VIO officers lacked legal power to impound vehicles or impose fines for traffic violations.
Justice Nkeonye Evelyn Maha’s previous judgment in FHC/ABJ/CS/1695/2023, filed by attorney Marshal, significantly reduced the VIO’s authority. The ruling, which does not affect the Federal Road Safety Corps, includes a perpetual injunction against VIO infringing on motorists’ rights.
