Police withdraw security from Atiku, Wike, Aisha Buhari and 17 others

The Nigeria Police have ordered all personnel attached to 20 VIPs including Atiku Abubakar, Nyesom Wike, Aisha Buhari, and other top officials to return to base following President Bola Tinubu’s directive withdrawing police protection from VIPs nationwide.

The Nigeria Police Force has instructed all officers assigned to 20 prominent VIPs to report back to base by 2:00 p.m. on November 27, 2025, in compliance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive withdrawing police escorts from high-profile individuals across the country.

The memo, issued by the 50 PMF Squadron in Kubwa, Abuja, lists affected figures such as former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar and Namadi Sambo, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, and the Olu of Warri. The move follows Tinubu’s order that police personnel be redeployed to core policing duties, with VIPs now required to request security from the NSCDC.

Additional internal directives from police units in Lagos reaffirmed the urgency, stating, “Sequel to the directive of Mr President… the withdrawal of all personnel… back to base.”
