Former Deputy Speaker Idris Wase revealed that Boko Haram members, armed robbers, and other criminals were once found on Nigerian Army and Police recruitment lists, warning that such infiltration threatens national security.
Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Idris Wase, has raised alarm over the infiltration of Nigeria’s security institutions by criminal elements, revealing that Boko Haram members, armed robbers, and other criminals were discovered on recruitment lists for the Army and Police.
Speaking during a special plenary session on the country’s worsening insecurity, Wase, who lost a brother, cousin, and nephew to terrorist attacks, emphasized the North Central region bears “about 52 per cent” of the nation’s insecurity burden. He cautioned against indiscriminate endorsements of unfit candidates and urged President Bola Tinubu to reconsider the directive to withdraw police protection from VIPs, warning that it “if we’re not careful, will lead to more kidnappings.”
Wase stressed, “There were recruitment exercises where names of known Boko Haram members appeared on the shortlist. Armed robbers and other criminals were also found among those cleared for the Army and Police,” highlighting a serious threat to national stability.
