NEW: Woman in Thailand found alive in coffin moments before she was supposed to be cremated.
Buddhist temple staff say the woman was brought to them for cremation when they heard knocking coming from inside.
The 65-year-old woman’s brother had driven her from the Phitsanulok province to be cremated.
“I was a bit surprised, so I asked them to open the coffin, and everyone was startled,” said the temple’s general and financial affairs manager.
“I saw her opening her eyes slightly and knocking on the side of the coffin. She must have been knocking for quite some time.”
The brother said she had been bedridden for two years and became unresponsive. He thought she had stopped breathing and assumed she had passed.
He then put her in a coffin and made the 300-mile journey to a hospital to fulfill her wish of having her organs donated.
The hospital refused because he didn’t have an official death certificate.
