Seventeen people, including a pregnant woman, nursing mothers, young children, and the family of a man who previously paid a N2 million ransom, were abducted when bandits attacked Isapa in Kwara State.
A fresh attack on Isapa in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State has left at least 17 people abducted, including a pregnant woman, two nursing mothers, several children, and six members of the family of a businessman previously kidnapped and released after paying a N2 million ransom.
The gunmen, said to be about seven and moving with a “large herd of cattle,” stormed the community around 7 p.m., firing sporadically and killing an elderly woman with a stray bullet. A community leader confirmed that “11 people were initially abducted” among them Talatu Kabiru, Magaji, Kande, Hadiza, Mariam, Saima, Habibat, Fatima Yusufu, Sarah Sunday, Lami Fidelis, and Haja Na Allah before the bandits went on to take six more from the businessman’s compound.
The Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, acknowledged the incident, saying, “Yes, there’s a fresh bandits attack in Isapa. I just returned from the place. The PPRO is preparing a comprehensive report.” Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has set up a cabinet-level security committee to design a Kwara-specific strategy aimed at curbing further attacks.
