Lagos is safe, CP says as security operations expand

Lagos Police Commissioner Olohundare Jimoh has assured residents that the state remains safe, citing expanded tactical operations, new security units, and increased patrols across land and waterways.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh has declared the state “safe and secure,” highlighting newly strengthened covert and overt operations across all divisions as the festive season approaches.

Speaking at a press briefing in Ikeja, he announced that the inspector general’s newly formed Eko Strike Force—designed to enhance rapid response—now works alongside the Rapid Response Squad, with deployments beginning in Surulere and expanding statewide through newly opened bases.

Jimoh said Lagos now has 57 tactical task force units providing comprehensive coverage, with recent breakthroughs recorded in Mushin, Akala, Olorunsogo, and Sangotedo. He also disclosed the deployment of 26 gunboats and the creation of a Submarine Tactical Task Force to boost waterways security.

Emphasising low crime rates in recent months, he warned against sensational reporting and insisted, “There is no area we cannot penetrate. Anyone attempting a crime in Lagos will be arrested and prosecuted,” while reaffirming the police command’s commitment to keeping residents safe throughout the holiday season.
