Former British Prime Minister David Cameron has revealed he was diagnosed with prostate cancer after his wife urged him to get tested, and he is now using his platform to urge men to overcome embarrassment and advocate for a national targeted screening program.
Former British Prime Minister David Cameron has publicly disclosed his diagnosis with prostate cancer, which he discovered after his wife, Samantha, urged him to get a check-up following a talk by Soho House founder Nick Jones about his own cancer battle. Cameron described the moment of diagnosis, recalling, “You always dread hearing those words… Oh God, he said it.”
Now using his personal experience to raise awareness, the former leader stated, “I want to, as it were, come out,” and join calls for a targeted national screening program. He acknowledged that men are often embarrassed to discuss prostate health but felt compelled to share his story, reasoning, “I would feel bad if I didn’t come forward and say that I’ve had this experience. I had a scan. It helped me discover something wrong. It gave me the chance to deal with it.”
