PDP moves to reconcile with Lamido amid leadership crisis

The PDP leadership has urged former Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido to abandon his legal battle and support reconciliation efforts, insisting his recent criticisms of the party’s convention and leadership are inaccurate.

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appealed to former Jigawa State governor Alhaji Sule Lamido to “sheathe his sword” and back ongoing reconciliation efforts aimed at stabilising the party.

The call follows Lamido’s BBC Hausa interview in which he criticised the PDP’s handling of its leadership crisis and referenced a court case he initiated.

Responding, Umar Sani, an associate of PDP National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), said many of Lamido’s claims were inaccurate, noting that no court barred the party from holding its national convention, and another court in Ibadan explicitly permitted it. He added that the convention produced new national officers, contradicting Lamido’s claim that the party lacks legitimate leadership.

Appealing for unity, Sani said, “Sule Lamido is a founding figure in the PDP… If we remain trapped in court battles, victory will continue to elude us.”

The party urged Lamido to work with Chairman Turaki, stressing their longstanding cordial relationship as the PDP grapples with internal disputes and public criticism.
