A new transparency feature on X has inadvertently revealed that numerous prominent MAGA influencers are actually foreign-based accounts operating from countries such as Russia, India, Nigeria, and Eastern Europe.
Elon Musk’s platform X has unintentionally exposed dozens of major MAGA and far-right influencer accounts as foreign-operated after rolling out its new “About This Account” feature, which publicly displays an account’s location and history.
The tool showed that several large “America First” accounts—including MAGANationX and the one-million-follower IvankaNews—are actually based overseas in Eastern Europe and Nigeria, prompting political influencers like Harry Sisson to declare, “This is easily one of the greatest days on this platform.”
Reacting to the wave of revelations, Micah Erfan called it “total armageddon for the online right,” while journalist Brett Meiselas warned, “Just think about the foreign influence operations that are happening right now on this app.”
Although X briefly removed the feature due to “rough edges,” it was later restored, fueling renewed concerns about foreign disinformation campaigns, paid engagement incentives, and the long-running issue of overseas actors posing as American political voices.
