Wole Soyinka questions Trump’s sanity over Nigeria threat

Prof. Wole Soyinka has criticized Donald Trump’s threat to invade Nigeria, asking, “Is that the language of somebody whose head is correct?” and calling the remarks careless and disrespectful.

Nigerian Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka has publicly condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent threats of military intervention in Nigeria, warning that such comments reflect a lack of understanding of the country’s complex security realities.

During a visit to Benue State, Soyinka questioned Trump’s mental state, stating: “Is that the language of somebody whose head is correct?” He repeated Trump’s own aggressive words “I say I’m coming to help you … I’m coming with guns a-blazing … it’s going to be fast, vicious and sweet” and urged foreign actors to show respect for Nigerians and those working to resolve the crisis.

He added, “Any government has an obligation to protect … at least have some respect for victims and those who are trying to find solutions for the unacceptable situation.”
